Paint mistake

I used BM mocha cream for my exterior and it is too pink. Can anyone recommend a similar griege without the pink undertone?

Mocha Cream belongs to the YR (orange) hue family.

Revere Pewter is similar to Mocha Cream in terms of lightness, chromaticity and LRV but it belongs to the Y (yellow) hue family which means it won't show overtones of peach.

I have to respectfully disagree about trying to decipher color appearance based on the formula.

While referencing the colorants sounds like it should be a logical approach, fact is it's anything but. This source simply describes why that's true:
“Unfortunately, the color mixture “predictions” made by subtractive color theory are often inaccurate, because the light absorbing properties of a colorant are affected by its physical state — its particle size, transparency, density, dispersion or medium, the color of the substrate, the other colorants it is mixed with, the thickness of the color layer, and so on. I call these problems substance uncertainty: because of them, the color of ingredient substances does not determine the color of their mixtures. Often, colorants must be physically mixed in order to find out what their mixture color will be.” ~Bruce MacEvoy (handprint.com)

Have you tried asking at the paint store? At my SW, I found they are very helpful to look at the ingredient list of the paint and tell me what the undertones will be.

Maybe BM Smokey Taupe? Or a color in that neighborhood?

Interesting! I had grabbed edge comb grey and revere pewter to check but wondered if I would see them as green. There is a stone in the foundation that is a mixture of grey and taupe.

This section here has weathered so the pink has toned down but where I have repainted it is quite pink.

Just as a follow up I went with Behr sculptor clay, which is equivalent to revere pewter and it was a perfect choice! Same tone just no pink.

Lori - that was an interesting comment. How does one find out what color family a particular paint is?

I've made more than my fair share of errors in paint selection.

One step more advanced is you can buy a NIX Sensor or Color Muse (from Amazon) They are hand-held colorimeters and they measure the color of just about any surface. When you use a device like NIX or Color Muse, they capture the color's spectral data - I call it color DNA. Both devices have apps that convert that spectral data, or color DNA, into various value formats. One of the most useful spectral data value formats is called LCh°.

Both apps for the NIX and Color Muse display LCh° values. The h° or hue angle tells you what hue family the color belongs to. Either way, you need to download The Color Strategist Color Wheel. There's a link in the video and that too is completely free.
