Concur..Ask your builder nicely what will be finishing the space..Have you seen the builders work on other jobs, what does your contract call for..Custom job?

I think you are correct, Beverly. Thing is, it was covered with carpet! Maybe another 1 inch plywood atop would work.

1/4" plywood might be enough. It just depends on what you plan to do.

That is what I thought. But someone I know thought that the 1/4" plywood wood wear out pretty quickly since the landing is not even.

Absolutely not. There is nothing wrong with that subfloor. It's fine; it's just old. Figure out what the new surface will be and plan accordingly.

Would you believe that it has been my flooring for 10 years-we had the home built. I just uncovered this, Joseph Corlett. It still has structural integrity, as we have been using it. It is not aesthetically pleasing. I would like to cover it with wood and stain the surface.
