Help! Dead Pepper Plant

I'm growing a decent amount of veggies in my garden - mostly all are doing well, which is a win considering the weird weather we've been having here in upstate NY. I have a nice variety of pepper plants - 3 bell pepper plants, a jalapeño plant, a Shishito plant and a Caribbean hot plant. I went away this past weekend and on Friday all the pepper plants looked great - I gave them a good watering before I left, around 6pm on Friday and when I got back on Sunday afternoon one of my bell pepper plants was completely dead! The weird thing is that all the other ones still look great! Anyone have any ideas what could have happened? It was an extremely hot weekend so I thought maybe I just didn't water it enough, but everything else, including all my other veggies are still doing ok... stumped and appreciate any insight.

Are your plants in ground? Pots? Raised beds? Have you been fertilizing? If so, with what, how much and when was the last time? When you say the pepper plant was dead, was it completely wilted or did it look like it had sustained damage? Possible you could post a picture?

Paul - My plants are in a raised beds about 8 inches off the ground. There's about 4 inches of top soil and then 4 inches of gardening soil. I have not been fertilizing but yesterday sprayed some plant food for the first time (plant already looked like this). The plant is completed wilted. Here is a photo. Thanks for your help!

Is the stem damaged? If not I would suspect some type of pest has been eating or damaging the roots. Do you have voles in your area? Very doubtful that it would be able to recover at this point so you might as well pull it and check out what is happening below ground.

So weird considering its smack in the middle of my garden, which is also completely fenced in! No holes anywhere either. Assumed I would have to pull it, which is a total bummer! Thanks for your advise.
