How adorable. I didn't know we even had tree frogs in the midwest. There is a huge frog or toad in my garden I come across sometimes when we happen to scare each other as he launches himself from under my hostas. I'd love to see a little cutie like this in my garden!

Michaela... those toads are so wonderful for our gardens. They eat slugs... keeping those nasty things away from our gorgeous hostas!

And as a side note, toads are one of my favorite animals. LOL... I'm weird that way.

Kristy--apparently I'm weird that way too, toads are one of my favorite animals. So inoffensive, yet with such gravitas. Also, if you look at the eyes of the common toad, they are metallic gold, just beautiful.

Michaela--we have several species of tree frogs. The one shown here is a green tree frog, about 3 inches long. We also have grey tree frogs, same size and general shape. In addition, there is the spring peeper, much smaller, it's the one that's heard first in the spring during their breeding season.

We have green and gray tree frogs and tiny green ones with BIG voices, plus leopard frogs, bulldogs, and toads. I've never found the tree frogs in the hostas, though. They like to hang out in the daylilies. Maybe the daylilies attract more insects.

Kristy, I love my giant toad, I just wish he wouldn't startle me so much! LOL. He likes to hide in the shade under the hostas so when I walk too close to him he launches himself a couple of feet in the air and almost gives me a heart attack!

dhaven, I wish I would see some tree frogs in my garden! How wonderful. Maybe I'm not in the country enough... not sure but in five years I've never seen one. :/

Michaela--your giant toad is probably a bullfrog. Toads don't jump high, they more or less hop or crawl, and usually slowly. Also, toads allow themselves to be picked up and inspected, although they immediately urinate, so plan accordingly. Once they have finished doing that, they are fine with being handled gently. Frogs don't care to be caught or handled.
