Until this year, I've had pretty good luck growing tomatoes. I always mixed up organic fertilizer from Steve Solomon's recipe (seed meal, dolomite lime, rock phosphate/bone meal and kelp meal) and put that into each hole before transplanting.

This year in mid-May I transplanted a half-dozen different varieties without fertilizer (in a hurry, health problems), planning to read up on how to fertilize after transplanting but never getting around to it. Now nearly all the tomato plants look sick - stunted, yellow leaves - and one is dead. Two weeks ago I used fish fertilizer on each one, but it hasn't made a difference. Except for the lack of fertilizer at transplanting time, the only difference I can think of this year is more shade because of volunteer foxgloves that I didn't yank out like I normally do. I've used soaker hoses when I thought watering was needed.

Is it too late to try the Solomon recipe? I also have on hand blood meal, horse and cow manure from last year and a bag of chicken manure.
