Try to create some symmetry with the fireplace. Maybe put some large square photo frames up the wall (gold would look nice against that pain). Organize them so they're roughly the same width and height as the fireplace (obviously you can't go up to the ceiling).

Since you have such a big wall space, I recommend adding some wall decor like a chalk board, mirrors, shelves, paintings, etc. Here are a few examples I think will look great with your wall color.

Some fine tuning needed here. Your canvas on the back wall is mounted too high and some type of elements need to be added to balance the wall. I have added candle sconces. The chandelier is mounted too high so I have lowered it.

Not sure what that is in the corner so it has been replaced with a simple tree for texture and interest.

Love the lower light idea and idea above. Personally I would choose another light that is simple and possibly find art that is lower and spans across the center of the table and most likely it would be exposed canvas unframed and could be a photo I took somewhere I went and loved.

Boy, that is really awkward. The first thing you need to do is paint that blue wall the same neutral color as all of the other walls. The last thing you want to do is paint it a dark, different color that highlights the awkward angles plus that is really dating your space. Paint the walls the same color and help the angles disappear and it will make the space look bigger as well. Then you need to remove the bookcase on the far side of the fireplace. That looks like it's way too cramped and shoved in there and it, too, is only accentuating the offsides weird-ness. Then I would get a side board or buffet type piece of furniture to put on that wall.

I like the wall color. Beverly has great ideas. was going to say the same about the light fixture. too high. I would change it if that's possible. like the tree/plant idea.

My suggestion would be to find a more horizontal art piece to buy up some of the space. Something a bit longer, rather than taller.

Wiring for sconces can be a bit involved, but would look nice. perhaps if you did a bit of wainscot for the lower portion in white? Keep the blue above, add some different art? would look nice.

I would ignore the vaulted ceiling

replace wall art with one rectangle large mirror twice the width and same height as current painting.

Tact is a virtue, sadly cpaul hasn't been blessed with it.

I like the wall colour. Perhaps a photo gallery or art gallery with different sized pieces etc may balance it all with floor lamp in corner

Since the wall behind the bookcase is the same dark blue-green, I would suggest that you move the bookcase to the left side of the fireplace OR get a matching bookcase to put on the left side and perhaps use it to hold dishes. Then, move the chair and floor lamp to the right side of the fireplace.

Personally I like the color. It is different but also a beautiful match to fireplace. Maybe other items can change but I think it is a good choice to work with.

Keep the eye away from the high pitch of the ceiling line by placing two three-drawer chests with lamps on either side of the fireplace...(remove the tall bookcase/cabinet) Additionally, run a long buffet along the dining room wall with a tall plant situated in the far most corner to help balance the other end. I would not paint the wall any differently than the rest the room as you do not want to draw additional attention to it.

I really like the wall color too. If it were me, I'd add a credenza/buffet and a pair of properly scaled lamps to the dining area. A mirror instead of the painting might be nice too. I agree the fireplace needs more symmetry, maybe either find a second matching shelf for the left of the fireplace or remove just the top shelves to open up that corner. If you add a buffet and lamps, you might want to move your floor lamp to the another spot. Oh yes, another good suggestion is to lower the chandelier. Have fun, it's a great room!
