cp, have you tried having SW match any of the BM colors? My painter only uses Kelly-Moore (west coast) and my local KM store has been able to get dead-on matches of SW colors. One took them three attempts, but they only charged me for the one quart.

Is it because your painter gets a better deal from SW? Would you be willing to pay the difference if he gets BM?

Chances are he gets a discount. Also, SW is apparently easier to apply. I much prefer the Aura from BM and would insist on the BM you want. After all, he is working for you. It is unlikely you will be socializing after your house is finished, so don't worry about his opinion of you-be brave, be a b!+€# if necessary. I let someone use color matched SW after he fixed drywall for us (DH told him I insisted on BM, but he told him he could color match, so DH dropped it). The color itself is a dead-on match, but the finish and depth are not the same to my eye. I love the Aura. Planning to get several gallons of it and redo myself! The Aura is more difficult to work with (I've been told), but any good painter can handle it just fine. Get what you want.

that's the only chart I've been able to find by now, but I've just started searching....I don't see your colors there but if this chart exists-it means the longer one exists too. The stores should be able to match formulas..won't always be the same, but most of the time the difference will be so tiny you won't notice it, especially if not trying to match old paint in certain spot

ours had an account with Dunn Edwards. He told us though we're free to choose whatever company but will pay more.

Well as I was reluctant to pay more I studied Dunn Edwards I was able to find there many great colors.

The quality is approximately the same as in SW or BM..even though I have my reasons to believe subs saved on some paint without us knowing..Not all, but some. I think darks since darks are more expensive. And I have my reasons to believe the GC didn't know about it either, since it's not like we always had a rosey relationship and no bumps on the road, but he was an extremely honest guy in everything he said and did.

In short I believe that the similar paint can be found/matched, but you'll spend a bit more time.

Or you can choose money over time, and still insist on BM paint.

Georgian Green - SW 7727 KOI POND (not a great match)

Guilford Green - SW 0029 ACANTHUS (not a great match)

There really aren't comparable colors BenM to SW but these are the closest.

Thanks Linelle. I am not quite up to having the walls painted but will be in the next week or two. No I haven't had them match it because I'd rather just have an actual color in case I ever have to repaint in the future.

Our builder's painters use SW. Seems to be the more popular paint down here. Yes I'd be willing to pay the difference if it's only the cost of the paint. Not if they charge an uncharge to use a different brand. Sigh.

I've had paint matched at Sherwin Williams a few years back and they did a pretty good job of it. They have the forumulas from the other manufacturers.

Thank you cyn. I normally am very willing to make waves but this is a case where I may not have a choice as the builder may want to charge me an upcharge for switching.

Thank you April. Unfortunately, the SW colors are not exactly the same and as an artist, I'm very color sensitive.

Thank you Lori. Those are the same I was able to come up with and no, they're not great. Even the Stonebriar is a hair more yellow.

I'm either stuck picking other SW colors or seeing if I can switch to the BM paint. I'll keep you all informed. Thank you.

So I was talking to my neighbor today who's house is being built behind mine. I was lamenting how I needed to figure out color but I really preferred BM colors. She said, "We're painting our house with BM colors."

So I said to my super, "I want to paint my house with BM too. I don't like the SW colors."

He checked with the painter and the painter said that BM paint is an uncharge. So I let my super know that since my doors and windows don't line up on the exterior on my lanai, they can either fix the doors and windows to line up, or they can paint my interior with BM paints. ;)

I did color matching to SW and it is true, the colors look good in a 2 dimensional way but there's something missing. Good luck getting them to agree to your deal!

I agree with the dimensional nature of the colors from Benjamin Moore. My go to lately has been Maritime White in full and half formula depending on the natural light of the space. My home is all done in BM, my office in Sherwin Williams, and a rental property in Behr. While they all look good, the BM just reads better. I did use SW tinted BM Decorators White for my ceilings because I needed 20 Gallons, and the pricing was considerably better. On a side note I used to love Benjamin Moores Velvet Matte finish, but with all the reformulating that has happened I stick to eggshell these days.
