Hi - When were they planted and how big were the containers ( 5g or bigger)? I have two white flowering crepe myrtles. I pruned one back pretty hard b/c it was getting too big. It just started flowering early this month. The one I didn't prune flowered in the Spring. Your trees look relatively healthy. Did you happen to see the root balls when they were installed? I am just wondering if they were root bound?

Hi Kerry-we planted approx 2 years ago- I believe when purchased, the trees were boxed bigger than 5g's. We had our gardeners plant, so I never saw the roots of the trees.They did flower the last couple years, I was told by someone just yesterday some years the trees may flower more than others, we'll just have to wait and see. I just don't recall what month they flowered, I thought it was about this time of the year. We were thinking there was a possibility we were over watering and possibly that is why we don't see any signs of flowers as of yet. I'd love to see a picture of your crêpe myrtles with the white flowers.

My 'Dynamite' flower buds (not yet open) are just appearing now in inland OC. Checking my records, last year they did not go into full bloom until the second week of August. Year before was mid July. Year before that was end of July. Other colors in the area are now in bloom. 'Dynamite' is perhaps a little slower than others here.

After thinking about it some more, when my trees were younger they bloomed later than the ones I would see around my neighborhood. I think they can bloom anywhere from late Spring to mid/late Summer and we are still well within that range. Just think, the bees will be so happy if your trees flower in August :)

Is there something brownish orange on the trees? Are the leaves dropping? (I have five, four are blooming one is just getting started.)

This particular trees leaves are orangish brown- different from the 1st tree I've pictured. This is what I find rather odd. Still trying to figure out why?? Do u have the dynamite red version? Pictures please

Water may be an issue. I have 3-4 big ones that only get winter water and they are flowering now. Try cutting back on water and when you do water, water deeply and less often. Make sure the water goes deep in the soil. If you have a rod, rebar push it down in the soil after watering and see how far it goes before it hits hard pan. 2-3 ft would be good.

Some CM cultivars seem to shut down when there is an extended dry heat spell. They just put growing, and bud production on hold, or slow down the process. Being a later flowering variety probably puts them more into the heat of the summer, so the delayed flowering gap appears longer than it might be where they are grown in cooler summer climates.
