You don't have any other options, do you?

I didn't know if I should get a 5 ft. slider instead of the 6 ft. that is pictured and a 32 inch fridge instead of the 36 inch that is pictured.

I vote for the 5 ft slider and would not reduce the size of my refrigerator for practical reasons.

I agree. Don't give up space in your refrigerator.

Can you not just move the slider over to the left, about 6" to 12" ?? If u get a 5' slider you're going to end up w the edge of it about 6" - 12" off the fridge anyway! -it'll save having to buy anything at all, ...just a little relocation; and you're left with a win-win!

That's what I wanted to do but if it goes to the left 6 inches to make it look centered then that creates another dilemma. I was putting the table and light centerline with the middle of the slider. If I go left there is no room to pull out chairs. So which is worse?? Door and fridge close or light not centered with slider if I go left ?? Both will drive me a little nutty

Remember, rule #1 in Architecture is: Form Follows Function! So w that, and for all intensive purposes, unless you're going to be using the table every single day and filling up all the seats around the table, then the reality is you can keep it (and the light) centered on the slider and have it closer to the wall, - then simply pull it away from the wall when you have company, or a small crowd at holidays or something like that, ....at which point there are too many people in the way to be able to notice that it's off center

Can you split the difference from the slider to the wall now? Maybe move the slider 3 inches to the left?

Is that the current window or is that new&/or bigger too?How big is that sink base??? And how big is the sink you are purchasing? Most folks are looking for a large single bowl sink... if that is the case then you should be able to reduce the sink base and that will give you a little wiggle room by the trim - then if you simply move the slider to the left 2 or 3 inches all of this will give you a place to have the light switch there for going outside....

If the window is going to be new or resized then move that and redo the design to better fit the ref.

Please make sure there is a panel between the ref. panel and the dishwasher - that is non-negotiable....it looks like there is one but it is hard to tell....

PS many people don't have the ability to have the chandelier centered with the slider - it's ok... you need to be able to get in and out of the door easily so base your table positioning on that....

How can we abandon the slider door all together to make this work from both a form and function standpoint?

Bi- fold glass door? French doors?

If it were my space I would NOT give up centering the chandelier nor the table - that would be off putting as OP suggests.

Also, it you go with the island (which I would encourage you to do) then seriously consider an oval or round table.
