I would choose simple tile in the background creamy beige color of your counter. Then I would use the reddish color for an accent color.

The challenge is figuring out what will blend cool white with warm golden countertop. Could you post a couple photos from way back to help us envision the whole space? Also, do you have undercabinet lighting? We worked on a similar kitchen on Houzz last year and put black subway tile. It turned out beautiful. So think about that. I see black in your appliances. Black is a neutral and works well with warm and cool color situations like yours.

I found a picture of the kitchen I mentioned with black subway tile backsplash.

Just found this backsplash. It combines mother of pearl and small brown dot. It would be unique and reflective.

Consider the under cabinet lighting now while the damage to the drywall will be covered with tile.

Be sure to remove the existing small granite backsplash - new tile won't look right stacked on top of it.

A glass/stone/metal mosaic tile could compliment the counter top, add interest and be much more durable than paint. It's easy to extend the outlet boxes to match the thickness of the new material.
