Need help for my

Our "library" is connected to our living room. I have very little left to spend on the adjoining library. I'm looking for ideas for a wall color for that room that "goes" but is not the same. (already have alot of teal color in house...) I'm ESPECIALLY looking for ideas for how to find/get/think out of the box about getting inexpensive book shelving in the library. (some day, I'll save up for real built ins!) AND, I'm looking for ideas about minimal furniture placement. Transitional style, not afraid of color. Hoping library can be a little less formal than LR. Thanks, CAK!!!

#1 and #2=LR:

#3, #4, #5 = "library" help!

I am not sure. I wonder what you think of the low-hanging lighting.

    how about red shelving?

Google IKEA Billy bookcase hacks. They're super inexpensive but are easily changed up with molding, etc. I think your library would be pretty in a pale, mossy green picked up from your area rug. This is Sherwin Williams Shagreen.

What will you use the room for? Reading, drinks after dinner?

Hi, OP here. Yes, the low hanging light is going for sure! It is left over from the previous owners (who used this room as a dining room even though it is on a different floor than the kitchen.),We put recessed potlights in. Open to new hanging lighting fixture, but secured closer to the ceiling. We, literally want to use the library mostly for reading and relaxing (and book storage) with open space to play family games. Thats why the shelves are so important... The green is a nice idea from the rug. (looks pretty on your walls!) We can also, alternately, use the rug in the office space and buy a new rug to go with any new color. Friends have tried to steer me towards a dark teal color, but we already have tuquoise in the kitchen, part of my bedroom, the couch in the LR. I'm thinking about maybe a red or a greige-y color. Maybe dark. I don't know why this room is so hard for me! I am clearly all over the map!!! Thank you again for any suggestions.

I would suggest that you want the rooms to flow. I wouldn't use dark turquoise-I think it will close off the room too much. Do you have any objections to using the same color as in the living room. I think using 4 chairs with a round table in between would be nice in here. Then you can use the table for drinks, games, etc. That's a beautiful fixture but I think you need a semi flush fixture. How tall are the ceilings? What has to stay in the room? Does the keyboard stay? The console? Will this be the TV room also?

I was looking for a similar color for my office and also needed a storage solution. I'm traveling now so I can't take good pictures and unfortunately I only have photos from before I had overhead lighting installed, so the pictures aren't great and appear darker than the room really is. But the color is BM Greyhound, which is a gorgeous midtone blue gray with green undertones, and the shelving units are from Ikea, as are the basket and drawer inserts (sold separately). They were very inexpensive, super easy to assemble, and have held up beautifully (they are four years old and still look brand new). They come in all different sizes - not just the four by four, and a range of finishes.

Yes comfort gray is beautiful! I have it in my master. Or if you want something very similar but a tad more green, use SW Contented.

For your library really all you need are some shelves and some comfy seating. Also when you get ready to work on it, I'm sure you'll remove the chandelier. Here are just a few ideas from our designs to get you going.
