Pool contractor mistakes!

last modified: 9 years ago

We hired a licensed pool contractor to renovate our pool to include new pool plaster including the start up procedure, install new water line tile, coping and deck pavers, install about 50 lf of drain between the pool and the house and cut out existing concrete to pitch the deck away from the house toward the drain. He installed the wrong color coping. He installed the wrong plaster color and said that the recommended start up procedure is overkill so he brushed it a total of 4 times and checked the chemistry once a week. He did not pitch the deck at all so water puddles at the doors when it rains. His paver crew finished up after the pool was filled and, in the process, they hosed the residual polymer sand into the pool. The only mistake he's acknowledging is the wrong coping color. He offered to rip it out and put in the correct color or credit us $1,000. We are hesitant to have this guy touch another thing because #1 we have no confidence in him and #2 since the coping was the first thing installed and then everything was locked in around it, we're concerned about it causing some damage and never being right. And if there was damage to any of the very expensive and handpainted water line tile, no two batches are the same so it would look awful with replacements patched in. So I'm looking for professional opinions regarding whether its even a good idea to try to have him fix things given his questionable competence and, alternatively, what a reasonable settlement would be. He's charged $6,700 for the plaster and start up and $9,200 for the deck pavers, coping and pitching of the deck.

This is the brown coping we wanted to contrast the pavers and really stand out

This is the coping we got and the plaster color

This is the plaster we asked for
