Hey Gina, don't despair, you have a lot of good things here to work with. Here is my first thought which is often best thought.. and a little photo inspiration.

Option 1. A new countertop in a quartz that resembles marble- do the back splash in the same material. It will calm the whole kitchen down and really brighten it up.

Option 2. Quartz marble countertop and a white backsplash. There are some really cool new options to subway tile out there so look around at your local tile suppliers. Just be sure the the whites in the counter match the backsplash. Sometimes the counters can pull green or pink so be careful.

In either option, change your hardware to either chrome, matt brass or oil rubber bronze. That will depend on what else you have going on in the house. for clarity sake, your metals don't have to match, its better if they don't, just keep in mind the vibe in the rest of the house so you maintain unity.

If you got a new countertop (although, I can't really see what it is. Do you like it?) and redid the splash, I think the cabinets would look much better. Don't know what a 'remodel' means to you, or what the budget is, but the only way for you to get what you want, is to remove (or paint) what you don't like. countertop and splash are the easiest ones to change. painting those cabinets yourself will take forever. paying someone to do it will be over 4K. leaving them alone and doing the other two will work perfectly.

this one is from your idea book. you could update your counter and splash to this, but leave the wood cabs. It would still look lovely. down the road you can have them painted if you want

if you like the two tone look, then paint the lowers. The one kitchen in your idea book w/the light sage green cabinets would look great w/the wood uppers.

I like your kitchen it is warm, comfortable and welcoming. It is a refreshing change from those only look at me, but don't touch me of those snow storm kitchens that you see over and over, again and again. I would just put in a touch of color in usable accessories. I am not an orange fan, but I like the orange in your tea kettle with your kitchen.

How about putting glass in more of the upper cabinets (to take away some of the wood).
