Leather is defiantly great for smaller children. Its durable and will not hold odors like a fabric sofa. You should consider Omnia Leather Furniture. They are made in the USA and will price within your budget. They offer many durable leathers for active families. You might also consider Mckinley Leather Furniture that is handmade in NC. If you don’t care about being made in America you might want to take a look at Palatial Leather Furniture that is made in China. All are good options and should provide you many years of pleasure.

I don't recommend leather with young kids. While spills will wipe up easily...a pen or pencil or scissors will puncture it....ask me how I know!
I would look for quality in the frame and fabric that can easily be cleaned, with the goal being to re do the fabric in a few years, since you have a quality, sturdy frame.
Oh....and teach your kids not to jump on the furniture. If you think they are hard on it now, wait until they get to be 12.

I am not telling you how to handle your children but leather and quality go hand and hand. Kids jumping at any age should not affect quality furniture, And what child under 5 would have scissors that are sharp enough to puncture something. Leather is the strongest sheet material used for upholstering for its durability and longevity. If you are going to invest in quality furnishings why would you want to pay to have it re-done in just a few short years. Just saying! But if they do eat and drink and spill leather can handle it and you don't need to recover. It's the perfect upholstery for those that are into it.

Personally my favorite car seats, purse and shoes are also leather because of the comfort and durability.

I can't recommend any particular brand, but I would suggest getting a sofa with the back cushions attached. A relative with young kids says she has to adjust her loose back cushions daily and will never buy another loose back sofa.

Check out Costco - if you belong - because they seem to carry a lot more furniture in the store now than ever before.

buy something from Ikea or educate the kids. I never jumped in my parents sofa and we were pretty wild kids but with rules

I had 3 very rowdy boys with leather furniture , it was not cheap but it survived all the boys and is now in our youngest sons basement T.V. room still looks great. I sold leather furniture for quite a while and my advice is get cowhide instead of a soft calf skin and IMO Italian made leater furniture is a better choice because it has no springs just a strapping support system that literally lasts as long as you want .Keep pens and indelible markers away from kids no matter what the material is on your sofa and now would be a good time to teach some respect for property.

We have 3 under 5. We have a decent (but not luxury) leather sofa with leather ottomans in lieu of a coffee table in our living room. It is where we hang out and kids occasionally play in there but no food allowed. Adults are allowed to have wine in there. :-) The sofa has held up well. In our Tv room we have 2 IKEA couches with matching ottoman and one has a chaise. The cushions all come off and clean well using an at home dry cleaning kit (Dryel). This is where our kids watch Tv, build forts, practice gymnastics when we're not looking and they have held up well. Cleanable cushion covers is awesome!

I am not sure what the cost would be now, but when we furnished our place 9 years ago, we had our couches made by Cisco Brothers. They cost about $2K each and have held up to our kids, who are now 7 and 9. No eating allowed on the couch. If you pick the right fabric for upholstery, you should be ok.

My daughter did scribble on the back of my leather desk chair when she was three, and I was never able to get it out...my son on his bedroom wall when he was 4... It is hard to make sure they never scribble on something in the house...

On the advise to get back cushions attached, most are semi-attached which many times will split at the seams; you would be better off with loose back cushions even though you may have to arrange them often.

I am a fan of Rowe for inexpensive but pretty decent quality sofas. My friend has two little ones and Rowe in her TV room. One day, I, the grown up, accidentally made a ballpoint pen mark on the sofa and it wiped right off. It was not leather but clearly treated with some kind of fabric guard. Her children are undisciplined wild ones and it works for them. (Both the approach to rules or lack thereof and the sofas!)

No jumping allowed on furniture kids!!! buy what you think suits your family and budget ,10 years from now you will replace it , if you purchase fabric get a can of Scotch Guard along with it or have it treated from the store , cover it with a blanket and when you have company remove it . No drinks or food allowed either , rules will need to be set .

Leather sofa can not solve your problem, although it is easier to clean, it also very prone to scratches, I think you'd better buy a sofa protector. There are a lot of this product on Amazon
