Mine was an Orange Jazz that weighed in at a fraction of an ounce over 2 lbs. I didn't take a picture of that one because it ripened unevenly and wasn't very photogenic but I did take a pic of this OJ that was almost 1.75 lbs. My largest Big Beef was 18 oz.

@J Wytt, that's a rather smooth tomato for the weight, nice!

@LoneJack, I've seen a couple of the big ones you picked over in the Veggie Tales thread, nice going! 2lbs is starting to be quite the tomato!

So far, nothing impressive has been picked. The ripest one below was 360g (12.7oz) and I've picked one or two nearing 400g since. This variety probably averages 325-375g so far, pretty decent.

However, I do have a couple of real whoppers, still quite green on the vines, which visually dwarf the one below and that I think might be in the 1.5lb and up class. Can't wait to for them to ripen so I can pick and weight them! :)

I've had several Giant Belgium and Big Beef that came in right at 2 lbs. None of my other varieties can't top them in individual weight but the Big Beef is much more productive in numbers.

That's a huge Big Beef Dave! I agree on the productivity of BB. I only planted 2 of them this year but so far I've harvested 176 fruit totaling 89.5 lbs. They are pretty much done now with only some small late flush green fruit on hideous looking plants. I'll be pulling everything except for one Orange Jazz and a couple cherry plants next weekend.

Two plants with 90 lbs of harvest!?!? Daaaang.

I couldn't resist.... I just went out to get a scale so I can brag here. Mine may not be the biggest by far here, but I am darn proud of it!

Whoa! What types are pulling these big weights? So far I'm seeing big beef, giant Belgium and orange jazz, OJ, and Wes.

Best I'm going to get this year is a couple of half pounders off my Early Girl, but I wasn't growing any of the biggies this year.

I posted this on an earlier thread, but since it's the largest I've ever grown, I'm glad to post it again... The variety is Rose, the weight is 1 lb. 15 oz.... just shy of 2 lbs. For size comparison, that's a quarter reflecting the light of the flash.

Here's the 2nd largest from this year - same variety... it, though, is a triple-fused bloom. Ugly, but tasted great in the Italian tomato salad (with a few smaller maters that needed eaten) below.

NIce rgreen! Now I'm tempted to grow Rose next year.

Big Beef will always be planted in my garden. I can't imagine a better, more reliably producing tomato. Now I am up to 182 fruit and 92 lbs. There are still a few dozen small 1/4 lb. tomatoes on them that I will either try to ripen off the vine or make some Salsa Verde with them after I pull the plants this weekend.

I really like it Jack. Tastes great and yields quite well for an heirloom. Most fruit weigh in at plus or minus a pound, but you'll get a few of these large ones, and a few 1/2 lb'ers. It's my favorite. A tasty, dependable, mater.

Our biggest was 24 ounces .... it was a Couilles de Taureau. We had some 20 oz. Virginia Sweets, Brandy Boys and Purple Dog Creeks.

We're like Lone Jack (maybe 60 miles away) .... ready to pull most everything with exception of some of the cherries.

@ Dave .... A 2# Big Beef has never been seen in my garden. That's awesome. They probably average 10 oz. here. BB is great for productivity here as well but never grows large.

I was sitting on my deck having lunch, when I heard a loud rustling sound coming from the garden. At a glance, I could tell a branch from a tomato plant had collapsed. The string that held it up and attached to the stakes failed under tensile stress and it all came crashing down. The branch was almost entirely torn from the main stem, so no point trying to patch it up. I'll find a use for those green tomatoes anyway.

Luckily, the tomatoes fell on either soil or grass, avoiding being bruised by the wooden bed frame. That was a fairly hefty bunch of tomatoes, including one of my two largest, which I expected to pass 1.5lb. I finally got to find out how much it weighs:

I was glad to see it more than passed the 1.5lb mark, but couldn't it have been 1.5oz heavier, you know? :-) In any case, it's my largest this year and ever. I think the other big one on the vine will come in at 1 or 2oz below this one, but the irregular shape makes it hard to compare visually, so we'll see then. I also have a couple that might just pass 1.5lb too, now that I can compare them to the above quasi-two-pounder. I guess I should check on the other limbs and pro-up strings to make sure similar failure isn't eminent.

Here's everything that was attached to that branch, three tomatoes over 1lb, the rest averaging 0.75lb perhaps.

30.25 oz (1.89 lbs) was the biggest I had this year (and ever!). It was a Cherokee purple.

That's a nice one Kevin, barely a quarter-oz apart from mine. It seems the ~32oz mark is somewhat of a ceiling for large tomatoes from folks not actively trying to grow them large. I'd sure like to see someone post a 3-pounder!

fungus - that looks more like the biggest 2 tomatoes you ever had! lol Actually I believe my biggest Orange Jazz was from a fused bloom too.

I love that scale. Can you tell us the manufacturer? Do you know if they come in Imperial or just metric?

Had a huge haul yesterday -- 11.5 lbs -- off of just two plants! One is Wes, the other Kosovo. Largest individual was a 1lb, 9oz Wes. Loving this season!

That scale is european (I am in Europe). So only metric. It belongs to a friend actually, I gave him the tomato (to brag), so not sure about the brand, it's definitely not a common model. But it's analog and easy to use.

No I did not grow that Big Zack Gardendawgie. I think that picture has been around for almost as long as I have!

I think I have another one of the same variety that might be in the high-20ies range, but nothing that will top my two entries.

billyberue, if I read that scale correctly (small image) it's 2lb 1.7oz? Nice, that's a fat one!

My biggest this year, so far, has probably been George Detsikas Italian Red (it was about the size a 2lb tomato should be, but it was probably lighter), although I got a Pink Berkeley Tie Dye that was pretty big, and a Sweet Ozark Orange, too. They were somewhat smaller than GDIR (but they would weigh more if they were the same size; I'm not sure if they weighed more or less as is). Chapman was big, but not as big, this year. Amana Orange was another big one, about as big as Chapman, this year.

Last year, my three largest were Cuostralee, Chapman, and George Detsikas Italian Red. I didn't grow Cuostralee this year. They were all about 2lbs. I watered a lot more last year.

As far as my most productive tomato per weight, I believe Pink Berkeley Tie Dye is the winner, this year. It was a lot different last year (extremely late maturity; small fruit; small plant; a few fruits); this year it has large fruits, a large plant, lots of fruits, and it wasn't super late. I used seeds I saved from last year, this year.

Anyway, it looks like PBTD and GDIR are good candidates for dry farming. I think Thessaloniki is a good candidate for wet farming (it's much smaller and less prolific, this year, but it was one of the best last year).

Looks like I misjudged the one fairly big tomato left hanging on the vine thinking it would not match my two previous whoppers. Turns out it beat my previous largest by half an ounce! All hail my 2017 champion!

My biggest was probably Pineapple, we had a monster but we ate it before I even knew anyone was weighing their tomatoes, LOL.

My biggest was actually a Rutgers, it was a strange year for them. Bigger than usual and several had "noses", this was my biggest one left that didn't make it into the canning pot yet:

Now the oddity. The tomato is smaller but weighs more. You can't see the back, but it was a "double". Maybe Great White is denser than Rutgers. I know the Great White has very few seeds, it's "meaty", but the weight surprised me relative to its size:

No record breakers here but the size of Rutgers this year sure surprised me.
