I would do whatever goes with each side. In other words - No.

Actually, it if you use glass doors on one side, you need to have glass doors on the other side unless you always burn the fire with the doors open. If you close the doors and the other side is open, the side with the doors closed will act like the back side of a single sided fireplace. All the heat will go against the glass. The glass will shatter and the frame will get burnt. Read more about this here:

I would have the same on both sides

Look at what's available on the market. Read the instruction manuals that come with these fireplaces. Seems unlikely to have something with glass on one side and open on the other. Some stoves are meant to work with glass screens and some aren't.

I would suggest replacing the current mesh curtains with what is called a frame screen. Frame screens have mesh curtains similar to what is already on this fireplace, but they are much more decorative and come in a wide variety of styles and finishes. They are particularly appropriate for fireplaces that are raised in the wall like the back side of this fireplace, but work equally as well for fireplaces flush with the hearth.

Add some andirons to create a more transitional or traditional appeal, or even contemporary depending on the andirons selected as you see in the last example below. You can use the exact same screen and andirons on both sides, or change them up to create a different appeal in each room without while maintaining continuity in the design.

Here's how it might look using frame screens in satin nickel and antique silver combination to blend with the existing lighting fixtures and hardware.

Now we'll see if you're still reading this thread Mr. Hansen Pro guy. LOL I have a really ugly fire place that is two sided and is raised in both of the rooms it faces. We just moved in so it's not the highest priority on the list however, I need either screens or glass for both sides. The glass doors are really nice but, the screens that you showed with the Andirons look awesome. Which of the two is more efficient for heating? Does the glass get sooty? If so, how is that to clean? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Glass doors are always more efficient that other types of screens because you can close them all year-round when the fireplace is not in use to cut down the draft from the fireplace by about 95%. The fireplace is usually the number one source of heat loss in a home.

With that said, efficiency is not always the highest priority when it comes to the cost or looks of a fireplace screen. Once I see your pictures, I'll be able to create some mockups for you and help you choose the best option.

I have a 2 sided gas fireplace with glass doors on both sides. I open one side of the room we are in while on and never had a problem. Mesh is always open as well. The house was custom built in 2001.
