Alternatives to poured concrete retaining wall

Hi There,

We are building a contemporary home in seattle. I'm anticipating the cost of poured concrete retaining walls will exceed our budget. I thought there may be contemporary options for block retaining walls but have not found any on the web. I've attached a few renderings of the project. A note that the concrete wall will extend the full width of the front.

Does anyone have advice?

Your architect and his in-house engineer can provide you with the specifications you need (depth of footing, angle of slope, etc.).

Block is way more than poured concrete. Poured concrete is as cheap as you can get. Other than the hillbilly look of DIY creosote railroad ties that come crashing down at the first big rain. Your homes structural stability depends on keeping millions of pounds of wet soil and water at bay. This is not an area to cheap out. You need a proper engineered solution, or you may not have a house.
