Help!!! Water spots on chrome won't come off!

We built and loved in to our home 4 months ago and did not realize we needed to wipe down the water off our chrome shower faucet. Not sure what causes these stains (hard water stains is what I assume they are), but we have googled ideas and tried getting the spots off with distilled vinegar and water, and rinse agent on a dryer sheet and rubbing it into the chrome in a circular pattern. None of it has worked. We even called the subcontractor company that we selected our faucet handles, etc through and they had no additional ideas on how to get rid of the stains. I don't want to damage the chrome. I was hoping I could get some ideas from the smart people on Houzz who may have had similar incidences.

You should be able to polish the marks Amway with Amway's chrome and glass cleaner.

As far as your question is concerned,we can suggest,use white vinegar solution to cut that down.This would be easier and faster.But if stain still continues,it is better to entrust this work to professionals as they are knowledgeable and can handle this issue in a very methodical way.

I just saw this question 3 years after you posted it. I had the same problem. Whatever I was recommended from online research did not work. What helped me was Barkeepers Friend.

Don't think it will ruin or dull your chrome, it will not. We have built a new home with high end finishes. Faucets are all Hansgrohe shiny chrome. Barkeepeers Friend makes them shine. I tried vinegar, Lime-A-Way, citric acid...... with no success.

We have a water softener and the shower water is soft (<1grain). A lkittle education: what we are dealing with are Sodium spots, not hard water spots. This Sodium gets in the softened water through the ion exchange in the water softener. These are Sodium (Na) spots, not Sodium Chroride (NaCl = salt) spots. These are also not hard water spots.

The vineger and acid approach only works on hard water spots, not on soft water sodium spots.

The sodium spots cannot be dissolved by acid and therefore Barkeepers Friend does the trick.

I was afraid that it might dull or scratch my chrome. It did not. Even their website says it is safe to use on chrome.
