Photos would be of help. A wood backsplash probably not the best idea!! However, posting photos will better help those here help you look at backsplash options as well as the flooring in the area.

I also vote tile -- wood behind a range is a fire hazard, among other things. But I think your kitchen could use a little contrast -- either a gray that brings out the (invisible) veining in your counters, or a color for some cheer.
