GFCI Tripping

Garage GFCI protects 6 outside LED lights, a small fountain pump, a water purifier, and a receptacle with a radio attached. Lately the GFCI has infrequently been tripping in the evening when all of the above except the radio are on. Resetting the GFCI corrects the situation immediately and may not trip again for several weeks. It always resets and stays on for days or weeks without anything being different.

Well, it is possible that the GFCI is defective, but that's usually wishful thinking. My guess is you have an actual ground fault. I'd carefully inspect any exterior boxes for water infiltration. Is the radio plugged into a box with an "in use" cover that keeps the water out (or just the old style and now illegal little flippy doors over the holes).

It will be tedious given the intermittant nature but best bet is to start disconnecting things until it stops.

One way, if you can manage it would be to use mulitple GFCIs. I had a problem with all my exterior (and garage) receptacles tripping the single GFCI. I just replaced them all with individual GFCIs. Figured out that way which one was really the issue.

Actually, just several minutes ago I siliconed over the wire connections on the bottom of the transformer and taped over the unused plug receptacle holes on the bottom of the the light timer. Here's hoping. Thanks.
