Replacing filler with spice rack?

Hi all. Hoping someone can give me advice on a kitchen issue. We recently redid our kitchen with custom-designed Merillat cabinetry. There was a miscommunication between our designer and our contractor, with the result that a spice rack from Rev-A-Shelf that had been planned for the kitchen was not installed, and a plain filler panel was put in instead. (The spice rack was not clearly marked on the plans and the contractor did not open all of the boxes... long story but huge headache on both sides). Picture attached. All of the other cabinetry has been installed and the kitchen is "finished".

The kitchen designer seems to think that there is some way to install the spice rack even though all of the other cabinetry has been installed. The contractor told us there is no way to go back and put in the rack, which is sitting in our garage.

The filler panel is bookended by two other cabinets, so it's not a matter of moving an appliance out to install the rack, which is what I saw on a YouTube video.

Can anyone suggest if there is some way to install the spice rack? We have finished our work with the contractor, so perhaps it's a job for a carpenter? I suspect that in order to install it, we'd have to cut into the cabinet walls on either side in order to be able to put the brackets in. And I'm not opposed to that if it means we get the spice rack. But I would be happy to hear anyone's suggestions.

Forget the spice rack, please. No good could come of this. Doesn't matter who loused up and didn't follow a plan or didn't communicate, or pay attention. Too Late and not worth the ruination. Put them in a drawer face up. It's easier. To look right, that is not enough space. You need about 6 to 9 inches to have a functional pullout. You have about 3.5 inches. Move on.

At best, a filler type spice rack would go there. Given the narrow space, it would be very difficult if not impossible to install a filler type (between cabinets, not within a cabinet) without uninstalling one or more of the base cabinets.

The filler is likely held in place via cabinet screws through the stiles in the adjoining cabinets. Removing the existing filler is a walk in the park compared to trying to install a filler spice rack in its place.

IMO this ship has sailed.

The layouts noted that it was meant to be a 3" pull out filler, and that is how wide the Rev-a-Shelf is, so theoretically it would fit. But it sounds like it will be next to impossible.

Anyone want to buy a 3" Rev a Shelf pullout spice rack? LOL.

Yes Rev-a-shelf is really that narrow... If you have a 3 inch indeed.... However it would be really tricky if the counter is on already.... Do you know who installed your kitchen? You need to contact your original installer and see what they say. Not your GC, but an actual person who did the instal. You will also need a front, do you have a finished front?

i'd be afraid that the face plate of the spice rack would prevent other cabinet doors opening. i'd leave well enough alone.

I had one of those ready made Pet Ritz pie crusts thirty years ago. I was making quiche for a brunch in humidity...... shortbread crust wasn't working..... was midnight.... said "oh well, ready made." . I saw crumbs in the crust, ........thought maybe brush those into the sink. Yeah, you know what happened, and I was back in the supermarket at half past midnight.

Just let the spice rack go??? Please?

My guess is it proably was next to the stove ,worse place to put spices just live with what you got.

Have one built on to the back of your pantry door if it's a convenient location.

Jan, too funny! But I understand where the OP is coming from. It would drive me nuts, knowing that it supposed to be there and I have it!!! We would attempt it that's for sure.... not that I am saying the OP should. But calling your installer is free.

Patricia, I think they just didn't put it where the filler is now. It doesn't show next to the stove.
