How does a steam shower compare to a gym steamroom?

I love steamrooms at the gym. The way that intense steam seeps into your muscles after a hard workout is wonderful. I like the steamroom at the gym much more than a sauna.

But is a steam shower similar to a gym's steamroom? How would you compare them? I'm considering getting a steam shower in a bathroom remodel but have never had a steam shower so I can only base it on online research.

We had a steam shower put in during a recent remodel. It is AMAZING! Just as good as a gym one. It is one of the best things we did in the remodel. I love being able to put whatever oil that fits my needs when I need it. We did a steamiest, and not a super fancy one. I didn't do the oil pump cartridge things as I felt I could just add the oil in the shower. The best part is that I can sit in it alone without a bunch of strangers sitting in there too, and I don't have to drive anywhere to use it! Best thing for congestion too.

I don't believe I've ever been in a gym steam shower, but we had a steam shower in our past house. It produced steam so thick you couldn't see the person in the shower from the outside. It got plenty hot too.

i've only been in saunas at the gym. but i have a steam shower at home. you can add essential oils while you steam, and it is really great to help with sinuses/colds, sore muscles, etc. the steam can get really thick like weedyacres said.

A properly designed and built home steam shower will provide you with plenty of steam and steam you just fine. Proper insulation, vapor barriers, surface material, and a properly sized steam generator and all should be well.
