crock potting

I have the crock from an old crock pot that I was able to drill a drainage hole into. I say "able" because that was harder than I thought it would be.

What I'm worried about is how hot the black earthenware crock will get mid July next summer here in zone 7A.

Can anyone recommend an ideal plant for a situation like this? Maybe something that likes shade but wants warmer soil? Something that likes drier soil?

Discuss, and thanks!
