WLOMWLS MAILING INFORMATION AND RULES

OK. It's time to start searching lists and packing your seeds for the swap :} Here are a few things to remember.

1.You may only send 1 surprise packet of seeds per player that has that listed as a want. please mark it as surprise right on the seed packet so I know.

2. You may only send 1 of your favorites per player that has that listed as a want. Please mark it as your favorite right on the seed packet also.

3. If someone has listed any next to a wanted seed, please remember that if we all send in a bunch of "anys" we'll all get some of those back. Please mark any right on the seed packet.

3a. If you chose to write any, they will be added to your swap packet first to make up your return package.

4. There is a limit of 200 packs of seeds to be swapped. If you send in more than 200, they will be considered extras and shared accordingly.

5. When packing flower seeds please be as generous as you can. I believe when I copied Pats rules from last year it was 25 or more. There is an exception here. If they are fresh commercial seeds or large seeds, send what you would be happy to receive. I trust you'll be fair to one another.

5a. I'm not a vegetable grower so I don't know what a fair trade is. Please be fair to your fellow gardener..

  1. Please bundle seeds for each player separately with your name and their name on the outside. This can be done using a snack/sandwich bag or whatever works for you.

7. Packages should be mailed no later than January,19th. My email is ishareflowers@aol.com for those of you who need a mailing address.

8. Please enclose enough postage to cover your return envelope! I think most of you know from previous swaps that I return any unused postage.

This swap had the potential to have 30+ players. We didn't end up with that many. I will mail first class with delivery conf. to those who would like their packages mailed that way. If you don't want delivery conf., I cannot be responsible should your package get lost in transit. I strongly suggest tracking! If you want flat rate, that is fine too. Please note your preference in a note to me when you mail.

Maybe everyone already knows this but I'll post it anyway. If you hit your control button and F at the same time while you're in the composite list. It will open up a search bar where you can type in the name of a seed and see who has it listed on their wish list. I find this helpful when searching lists.

I think that's it or I hope it is because we can't edit these first posts. :}

DO NOT PACK SEEDS FROM THE WISH LIST THREAD. HERE IS THE LINK TO THE COMPOSITE WISH LISTS.

I'd like to thank you all for my Christmas presents. [my wife n I both had the flu for 3+ weeks through Christmas and New Years, etc.] Got some really nice stuff. The beautiful wrapping will show later when the gifts bloom. Thanx again!

YOTETRAPPER, this really is a lucky time for you! You won the guessing game too. Karenholt received the most wishes of all players. She had 85+ wished for packets sent in for her. Please send me your address so I can mail a prize.

Lovesblooms, drop me a line with your address. I have a packet from my stash that I missed putting in for you.

Pinkiris, Karenholt sent a 2nd package with seeds for you. They came the day AFTER I mailed your package. I'll mail them out next week.

Received my package yesterday and was surprised with a lot of my wishes fulfilled. Thanks to everyone in the swap and especially to Lisa for all of her work.

I'm glad the package came in last week! I've been away from the site for a couple weeks. I hope everyone is having fun. Not much longer til spring!

I just came on here to say I got my package today and now I see I won this contest too! Geez, I need to go buy a Mega Millions ticket or something! Thanks!

My package was great. Lots of wonderful things I really wanted, including one that I've been searching for for several years now... Alabama Sunset coleus. I was thinking of taking a nap this afternoon but now I think I'll be getting out the potting soil instead!

Thanks so much for hosting Lisa, and for the kit kat bars too, LOL. And thanks to everyone else that sent seeds!

Congrats on your good luck, yotetrapper!

I received my package today and it's full of wonderful seeds! I'm so excited right now, I want to get out the potting soil too! Thank you everyone! Thank you Lisa for a great swap! And the free postage was an extra nice surprise. ;))

package has arrived and kit kats are gone, LOL! ....thank you Lisa and everyone that sent seeds my way ... much appreciated!

Off topic, but someone here might know. I planted some tomato seeds about 5 days ago... and today there is some sort of mold or mildew growing on the top of the soil! Any idea why, or what to do about it?

That's normal for me, yotetrapper, but make sure your soil isn't too moist, or mold and mildew is all that will grow...

Sometimes it's too late to remedy, but you can try using a teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide in a cup of water next time you water. I use a spray bottle to make sure I get full coverage of the top layer of mix.

To prevent it from happening be careful not to over water and use a little peroxide in the water from the very first time you moisten the medium you are using. Airborne and waterborne fungi and other organisms can infect even sterile mixes once they are exposed.

I'm in the northwest and everything molds here. I sprout tomato seeds on a paper towel first and water everything with water+hydrogen peroxide (1 pint water to 1 tablespoon hydrogen peroxide) while they're still seedlings. Ditto on the soil not being too moist, make sure there's never any standing water. I also never use humidity domes or cover the pots, the air circulation helps.

I just scrape the top layer of soil off when it molds so it doesn't spread to the seed/seedling.

Woo hoo! My pack came today!! Thanks to everyone who sent in seeds for me, and a big, special thank you to Lisa for hosting and for donating so much of your time to make this such a great swap!

Me again... I just went through my pack and had to come back here with another thank you. My wish list was a tough one, but people were still able to match some of my wishes. I am blown away. Thank you all so much for sharing with me. And Lisa, you sent me a fantastic selection of fill-in seeds. I couldn't be happier. This has been such a wonderful swap. You are all marvelous. Thank you.

Erica and Pinkiris had the most challenging lists this time around.

Pink, an envelope was sent out to you yesterday.

lovesblooms, an envelope went out for you as well

Sunshinegal, you package is on the way!

Yote, your prize will be mailed this morning.

Thanks for the replies about my moldy seedlings. I didn't know about the peroxide trick. Guess I should take off the clear dome too sounds like. I usually struggle to keep them watered enough, not used to too much moisture!

Thanks again for the prize, Lisa.

When starting tomato seeds indoors, I've had problems with mold before (damping off can also be a problem) and have found that spraying the soil with chamomile tea will clear this up. Keep a spritzer of chamomile tea handy (one tea bag steeped in a cup or two of water) to spray whenever you see the first signs of mold. I've also found that it helps if I use a soil specifically for seed starting or add some vermiculite to the soil to hold the moisture.

yeah that happens quite a bit. i find it happens when the light amount is low, not enough light.

also, sometimes its the soil, even stuff you pay too much for in a bag, well some of it is just a funky mix. a lot of the commercial "soil" is not that good...and it's pricey to get the good, seed starting soil...and then even that stuff can have weird properties.

but i have also found that you can still sprout seeds, even when that funk layer is starting on top. i usually fluff it a bit with my fingers (dries up the top layer a bit being aerated), and then give it more light...as generally i think thats the main problem.

I start mine in several things. I reuse the little greenhouses on a 24x48" heating pad in my greenhouse. When the plants get large enough I transfer them to small paper cups then to the garden. I have never had an issue using this method.

Lurker popping in - Seed starting - sometimes you get green moss and sometimes you get fungi (I get various fungi/mold looking stuff composting wood chips and lasagna gardening). They're not bad at all and the seedlings grow fine. People buy Mycorrhizal fungi to add to their soil. I get green "stuff" in my winter sow jugs and it's never been a problem. The whole too wet bit with damping off will kill entire trays of seed though, so that is something to watch.

My seeds arrived with a couple of surprise Twix bars from our hostess. Well, it is almost Valentine's Day, so no guilt when I ate them right away - yummy! Thank you so much to all who sent me seeds and to Lisa for heading up the swap. Erica, I think you sent me the Anacojia pepper seeds, and I couldn't find them online to see what the Scoville rating is. Would you happen to know, or give me the name of a pepper close to it for reference? Also, I think you sent me an F1 tomato that might be Estelle, but I can't read the name. I got a Cowhorn pepper from someone that had Boa 7 written above it and wasn't sure if that was part of the pepper name ( couldn't find it online) or was someone's screen name.

I'm looking forward to growing all these neat flowers and veggies.

Midwest. I have a list here of most seeds sent to you. That is a pepper and Erica has it listed as boaz

Mary -- I think you ended up with some that I didn't repack. Sorry if the handwriting wasn't clear. I sent you Estella Tomato and Boaz Pepper. There is info for both of those online. As far as the Anacajia Pepper, I can't find info on that one. I was hoping you'd have better luck.

Thanks Erica! I start hot pepper plants for my friends, and they will be thrilled to try these. I enjoy trying new tomatoes and sharing those too. I'm hoping for a Harvest Right freeze dryer in the near future to preserve food for 25 yrs.

A freeze dryer sounds amazing! Hope it works well for you!

Yay - my seeds came today! I got so many that I’m excited to try, I can’t wait to get them growing! Thanks to everyone who participated and a very special thanks to Lisa for all of her hard work to make this a great swap.

It's seems the lack of light leila hamaya mentioned was what the issue was. I had planted the seeds but not bothered to hook up the lights since they'd not germinated yet, and that's when the mold grew. I hung the lights up a couple days ago, and now all the mold is gone and everything looks fine.

The envelope arrived, thanks so much for sending on that and thank you very much Karen! =)

Lisa you're so sweet to send these extras--I love them all, thank you!

Lisa, you envelope containing my "prize" must have gotten lost for awhile. To be honest, I'd totally forgotten about it! But then today I opened the mailbox and the only thing in it was a card from you. Thank you very much, cold hard cash is the best prize of all! LOL

Angela, it didn't get lost. I did. Lol. Life got in the way. I'm glad it made it to you, thanks for playing!

Finally had a chance to pick up my package! I got so many new-to-me seeds that I’m excited to try and I am growing impatient! Thanks to everyone who participated and thanks to Lisa for all of her hard work to make this a great swap.
