Good to know!

I did not cover anything this year, but in the past when I did, I used towels and blankets, I figured if a sheet did not keep me feeling warm it would not do much for a plant.

If next year I get the urge to save anyone I'll remember the sheets don't do as much as one might hope.

It really depends on the plant i think. The sheet did fine for my newly planted hibiscus but not so good for the copper plant. The goal of the sheet is to keep the plant from dying and every sheeted plant is still alive but some faired better than others. I don't have enough old blankets to blanket all the plants but i have a pile of old sheets with lttle holes or stains that i have collected over the years. I blanketed the key lime, desert rose, my giant bromeliad and a large potted penta too heavy to get in to the garage but the rest had to make do with sheets, towels, some unwanted cloth yardage that i found in my mom's craft bin, empty plastic bins, my two 'yard trash' cans, and even a cardboard box i fetched out of my neighbors burn pile(it fit over the plumeria perfectly).

I tossed many of our old blankets so I dont have as many as I use to and the ones I have I rather not get dirty.

I had thought about some burlap, could keep a plastic bin for storage of the burlap, but in years past the heliconia seems to always look like crap in the winter, even mild winters, but it seems to have enough pups or whatever that survive and pop up in spring so I was not so worried.

Of course maybe I should have worried this year!

I also have a ummm a cuban buttercup and it looks dead! never have I seen it look so bad in winter, I'll leave all the frost biten stuff on for now and once spring is fixin' to hit purne and cross my fingers! If I thought it was gonna take such a hard hit I might have throw a sheet on it.

I use everything but single layer sheets. Of course it's much colder here. One of my favs is boxes. They don't mash the plants and do pretty good as long as all holes are taped. 5 gallon buckets are good but have to be removed before the sun cooks them. Mostly, I use frost cloth. Initially kind of expensive, but last forever. We had hard freezes so, I put sheets and blankets over the frost cloth on my pineapple patches. They seem to have come through it.
