Help! stove placement

Today I finalized my counter top placement and my quartzite is pretty much cut at this point but I think I made big mistake with my stove placement. We opened up the space behind the stove to have more open floor plan, this house really needs it. But I don't think there is enough space to safely cook. Stone is cut, what are my options? We are doing only 2inch overhang behind the stove. Is it a problem? Excuse the mess.

You have space on either side, you are fine.

plenty of space on sides, just concerned with little space behind the stove. Might be overthinking it.

Do you have small children? If so, the damage is done........with the choice of location for the appliance.

there is range hood above that has exhaust outside, that' why we placed the stove there.

IMO a very bad space for a cook top it looks like it is a hallway an accident waitng to happen. Was there a KD involved with this design , if so they need to go back to school.I have no idea of the rest of the space so can’t comment on where it should have gone and now of course you will need to rework the layout and reorder quartz. It looks like a induction stove so at least hot burners won’t be a problem. Sorry not helpful am I.

HI -- Well the damage has been done at this point so...... the best thing you can do now is to make that wall behind 42 inches in height . That should be enough to shield the stove . I wish you could have shown us the whole layout of the kitchen .

I cannot afford to reorder 5k of stone work. Yes We have kitchen designer and they are scratching their heads now.

Not safe. I would sacrifice that overhang and build up that wall behind it a little bit. I guess create a bar height there instead. The stone should be able to be cut to fit that.

Agree. Add height to the wall behind.

Any KD that is “scratching their heads now” is NOT a KD. That’s a salesperson. What did she sell you? 5K worth of counters? 1K worth of sinks and faucets?

You didn’t pay for independent advice, did you?

That pony wall will need reframing taller, with steel studs, and you will need a backsplash now. You will also need electrical outlets in that backsplash. And a wall topper of stone too. I’m assuming she is paying for her errors?

I would build a wall behind the stove and it will need to be tiled like the rest of the backsplash. No bar counter, no stools, no people to have accidents due to proximity to the stove.

HI -- I agree in part with what you said Sophie , but it is all pointless now . This just shows that people should shop around and ask lots of questions before they do any remodeling doesn't it !??

I gotta tell you that we intend to sign a contract tomorrow - after a full year of meeting with 9, 10, or 11 contractors of varying degrees, 2 custom cabinet companies, et.al., 3 fabricators, late nights researching, many questions to this houzz forum and many others.

A few contractors dropped us saying I needed someone more hands-on, or I wanted acrylic vs Quartz.. It's been a highly educational process.

It always is a learning curve nad that is why it is often best to have a designer to work with that takes a lot of this off your shouldres. IMO the KD that did this is not a KD .

A designer has every single one of the folks you mentioned on speed dial and at her finger tips Including the KD.

I'm not going to argue if person is it is not kitchen designer. We are adding wall, our counter top people people saved the day. My contractor is going to do all the changes as so fired the kitchen people.

@janmoyer not sure what designer u are talking about. I you are asking if we had designer on top of kitchen designer nope we did not. Never even know it' a thing
