Backsplash comments, please! What to do about that strange little gap?

Here is my kitchen wall. Originally, I had planned to do white subway tile that would go as high as the first shelf.

However, please note that due to spacing of floating shelves, that would leave me with a strange transition between the right-hand side of the stove and the shelf (see photo #3).

Should I tile the whole wall (If I tile the whole wall, I will run tile down the little strip on the left of the cabinetry to the floor)? Or should I get a stainless backsplash to go just behind the stove? Or something else?

(I cannot alter the shelves nor can I replace them with cabinets. Kindly ignore clutter and non-stylized shelves; had renters who left shelves as-is.))

I love this kitchen!
My first thought it to tile it all but stop the tile at the end of the counter. But without really having a clear view if that area, I’m kind of thinking it would be better to just tile it Including down the wall towards the floor. Since that will literally be the only piece of drywall on that wall it may look weird.
I prefer the tile to the stainless for behind the stove. I think it looks better with the apron sink. IMO.

Love your kitchen! I like the way it is now with no tile but definitely put something behind the stove.

Thanks, dala! I agree about tiling to the floor. And I am so tickled that you like my kitchen! I wish I had more photos but am far away from the kitchen (800 miles).

And thanks, C Renee! Yes, definitely a cheaper option to not tile the whole wall. I'm so conflicted! Here is another view of the kitchen. I am so torn between tiling the whole wall and doing just the stainless backsplash.

I love love love this. And I will take back my comment about the stainless panel. With that style hood I think it would look good.
And if you feel it’s missing tile after that you can always add it.

I love the full wall tile idea, but wouldn’t do white grout for a rental(stainless too industrial for me). We did an almost white tile with pewter grout(shows darker in photo) that we are thrilled with and it’s easy to care for.

Re: the first photo of the open shelving, is it the photo, or are they not centered between the window and the end of the wall? It looks like you've hung them flush to the casing on the right side, leaving a gap on one side but not the other. I think it looks great without the tile, just make sure the shelving is centered. That might mean putting in wood filler into the holes, touching up the paint, and re-hanging. Not sure if that fits your definition of "altering" the shelves; you wouldn't be changing the shelves themselves, just moving them over.

@Sabrina Alfin Interiors, good questions about the placement of the shelves. This is not my primary home and I live 800 miles away from it. I can't remember if the shelves can shift a bit so that they are centered and will have to wait until I visit in person in two weeks if that's possible. (It was such a nightmare getting them installed at all, as the studs in this house were not placed in useful positions.) I'll report back after I visit.
