I enjoyed reading it. I liked your idea for lining the wire baskets. I have three worm bins going right now that I started last summer. Two of the bins are ready for me to "harvest" the worm poop but I have been putting it off.

Harvesting worm poop is not pretty work, that's for sure, but well worth it. I'll pull up my mini bins in April.

I had a small worm bin under my sink for a while. My kids brought a bag full of worms home from school and instructions after a science lesson on composting. The bin wasn't large but they made a lot of poop with my kitchen scraps. Just don't put bananas in it.

Fruit Flies and Banana Skins

Bananas and citrus fruit are often the source of fruit flies in a home. They're especially prone to bearing fruit fly eggs on their skins. The risk of a major infestation can be minimized somewhat by washing the fruit with hot soapy water when you first bring it home. Chop the banana skins before you put them in the bin. Worms can process small pieces more quickly, giving the skins less time to attract fruit flies. Freezing the skins or microwaving them for 60 seconds kills fruit fly eggs and reduces the likelihood of an infestation
