Are they just draped? If so, why couldn't you fold them nicely and store them out of harm's way? Ask if that is possible.

There is always a way around, I would tuck them up ( not remove) behind something else :) Do the owners come by for regular inspection? Are you sure they don't mean remove from the property? Why don't you ask them if you can put up something of your own without changing any of the hardware or putting any holes etc. and save the scarves and when you leave you will replace them as now. Never hurts to ask.

Take them down. You can always reinstall them when you are ready to move.
