I’m going back-and-forth on how I feel about this and would love to get third-party opinions. My cabinets were installed today and I have a very funky space layout with constrictions. In the first picture you see head-on my “wall” of cabinets. The refrigerator in the center, a pantry to the left, and open space with an upper cabinet to the right. The cabinet to the left has a ~22” shallow depth necessitated by the fact that it’s adjacent to a doorway, I have no problem with that. The refrigerator cabinet in the center is typical depth for a counter depth refrigerator, around 26”. The upper cabinet on the right I had expected to be flush with the refrigerator cabinet. Instead they made it the same depth as the pantry. I think it looks funny and I’m going to have it moved forward so it is flush. One person I showed it to thought it should remain recessed so both sides are evenly pushed back, and so the “cave” formed by the open area isn’t as deep. However you really only see the cabinet from the peninsula side which is why I think it should be flush. It does make the opening a little bit more of a “cave “but I don’t think it’s an issue. I hope that makes sense.

Just curious what other people think.

I very much lean towards making it flush and less there’s a good reason not to…
