We certainly did have a great time at this spring retreat! This part of Tennessee is so lovely - great mountain view’s, lots of horses, things starting to bloom. It was hard to leave this morning.

My drive home was NOT fun - lots of heavy rain and driving at 42, 34, and 19 miles per hour and then a one lane stop-and-roll area just west of Winston-Salem. This all added another hour to my drive time.

I hope some of you will think about coming to our fall retreat in September, 2018 at the Ponderosa in Waynesville. The dates are Sept. 18 to Sept. 22 and we would love to have more members from our forum there!

I am feverishly trying to plan and organize my life so I can attend next year. I have thought about you folks every day.

My mom lives in Mena, AR. I woukd combine a trip from North Dakota to south western Arkansas, visit with Mom, and then trek over to Tennessee and then, eventually, back to ND.

It will be grand. The biggest issue would be getting my martins’ housing up before I leave, if the dates are the same, but it could be done; it will just be cold.

What state is Waynesville in?

North Carolina, in the mountains, west of Asheville.

Are they shortbread cookies? Who made them? Would you share the recipe and instructions? I know; I’m a Nosey Parker.

Such great projects and looks like y'all had a productive and fun time. I'm tempted to join for the next retreat. With a one son still at home and DH traveling a lot these day, it is hard but I will work on it.

I made the mice and will be happy to share the recipe.

I have tried to post this in a new thread, but it won't. So I'll do it here.

Almond Cookie Mice

1 cup butter or margarine at room temp

1 cup light brown sugar

1 large egg

2 teaspoonful almond extract

1 teaspoonful vanilla extract

3 ½ cups all-purpose flour

for decoration: peanut halves, coarsely chopped raisins, red/black licorice laces in 3 inch lengths

Beat butter and sugar in large bowl with electric mixer till fluffy. Beat in egg and extracts. Gradually beat in flour till blended. Dough will be stiff. Cover and refrigerate 1 hour or till well chilled. Heat oven to 325 degrees and have cookie sheets ready. Shape rounded tablespoonful of dough into 1 ¼ inch balls. Taper each ball at one end into a teardrop shape and flatten on one side. Place on un-greased cookie sheet flat side down, 2 inches apart. Press in sides of balls to “raise backs” of mice (they will spread out slightly as they bake). Gently push 2 peanut halves in each for ears and 2 pieces of raisins for eyes. With a wooden toothpick make a 1 inch deep hole at the tail end. Bake 9-12 minutes until bottoms are lightly browned. Remove to rack and insert licorice tails into toothpick holes. Cool completely. Makes about 45 mice.

Gals, you look as if you had a wonderful time. All your quilts look great. Linda, I especially love your daffodils. Beverly, I recognize those Spring Flowers from a Fons & Porter magazine. My friend gave me the pattern and kit when she cleaned out her sewing room. She said she'd never make it. I cut all the pieces and tried to sew the flowers, but I was unsuccessful. They never came out right, so I quit. I hope to get back to it one of these days. Is there a secret to making them that you could share?
