What about planting them indoors and putting them out in a few weeks?

I always remove any sprouts from my seed potatoes until planting time. They always develop new, healthy sprouts after planting. Your sprouts are quite big, I never wait that long before removing mine, nevertheless I would remove them and plant the potatoes without delay as soon as the weather allows. If your soil is suitable for Potatoes they should be ok .

I've never heard of the practice of removing the sprouts. I always thought you planted them sprouts and all. But since mine are so large and are going to get even larger, maybe I should cut them off. The point is, potato sprouts are so brittle. Thanks for your information.

I had this happen to me a couple of years ago. I got advice all over the board...plant them early, snap the sprouts, prune the sprouts, put them in the fridge...long story short, I planted some, snapped some and stored in the fridge, left some and just planted very deeply at planting time. None of it mattered...not as far as growth or yield. They all grew and they all produced well. They want to live, so if it were me again, I would leave them as is, put them in a very dark, cool place,and then plant at my first chance to get out there.

@Windberry & Donna. Thanks for telling me about your experiences. I am going to plant a few in a good sized pot, then transplant in due course. A few more, I'll cut the sprouts off but who knows if they can develop new ones. I don't see how. It would be like pruning a small tomato plant, wouldn't it, before it has enough gumption stored up to re-start, the way a larger tomato plant will have no trouble to get going after a wind breaks it off near the ground.
