Replace the smoke detector if that's what the round thing is on the wall.

A mirror or some artwork, as Carolina Kitchen and Bath says.

I would add a fold down valet rod for hangers to the left of the washer.

I love the blue door, but I'd change out the hinges and handle/lock to all match. SO Id do black hinges like the door handle. If you can change out the escutcheon to the door knob/handle, change or paint that black too. I just think the white hinges stand out like a sore thumb in this application.

If you like the blue, paint the whole room blue and repaint the door something else--maybe red. Change out the shelf to something deeper that can accommodate wicker baskets to store your laundry products. Add a large laundry related poster on the big wall. (You can do a Google search for that) Add a colorful indoor-outdoor rug.

If you keep a laundry basket in the room, get a nice wicker one instead of the folding one you show.

Can you put chachkas in the niche next to the door?

You need closed storage above the W/D I love the blue door and the laundry hamper would probably be better in the spaces where laundry collects and just a small one in there for odds and ends.Could you post a pic of the wall where the coats are hanging.

I too think some painting would spruce it up, mostly if the shelves were white instead of the dark brown it would give it all a more uniform look. Some decorative jars for the detergent or a large basket to put the current containers it will be more pleasing to the eye since they are out in view.

I would do some tile work on the wall and some floating shelves

That shelf is inadequate and your laundry products are always in view. I'd go bigger with something that closes. Do you roll the hamper from bath to bath to collect dirty items? If you have a 2nd floor, laundry chutes are handy. If that is attic access in the ceiling, I'd be interested to know how you use it in such a small space.
