Search for plates or dining wear from India (or Indian styles) that you could hang around it. Would be a nice touch for a dining room. :)

What a lovely gift. It does look a little lonely. Also, your chandy is blocking my view of it. Measure the height of that first…it should be 36" off your table top.

I know that these decals are getting a lot of mileage, but it is a great solution to wall decor when nothing else seems to work. What if you did these trees? Color is right for your furniture and it will let Ganesha take center stage.

Tell me: a Ganesha? Outside of the fact it is a tapestry and hangs on the wall, what is the significance?

I wanted to also add....simply adding placemats and some sort of vase/candle centerpiece on the table would really help, as well.

Ganesh is one of the most worshiped Hindu deities. He is believed to be the remover of obstacles and is the god of wisdom and learning. Because he's the remover of obstacles the priest prayed to a very traditional sculpture of him made from a coconut at the start of my Hindu wedding.

Genevieve's idea was good too, but too many Ganesha in one room will make it look more like a prayer room instead of dining room. But I really like the Ganesha wood panel carving she suggested. Might get one my self. :)

Actually, I like the way it looks now. It has its own dynamic, and more isn't necessarily better. The suggestion of adding items to the table (centerpiece, placemats) in some color from the tapestry, with a live plant in the corner by the window, might be worth exploring first. Love the wall color.

inkwitch has a point. More isn't necessarily better, but neither is less. I think you should get 2 identical wall decor that can go on each side of the framed Ganesha. That way, Ganesha will still be the focal point of the room (if that's what you want), and the wall wouldn't feel to empty. I suggest something made of wood for the wall decor I said. That would give it some... what do you call it... natural touch? No. Contemporary touch maybe? I'm not sure. But it'll add a touch. Potted plants in the room would do good too. And mind I say, that table does look too empty. A center piece will look great, it's a beautiful table. And the ceiling lamp doesn't look too bad. It actually still looks good. Keep it for time being, when you get bored of the room later and wanna make some simple changes, you could change the lamp and it'll give the room a whole new vibe. Would love to know what others (and you yourself) think about my idea, I appreciate any feedback. I'm trying to learn too you know. Hahaha :)

Have you considered stencil art on the wall? Something that looks like it's radiating from the framed Ganesha? The additional decor and stencil will do great I think.

You mentioned prayer room in one of your comment , even if 2 candles or scones would be added to the side of the picture the Ganesha will still give the effect of a prayer room,and if it did what's wrong with that? Its a dining room ,where blessings are often said . I find that when I try to put something together it must fit in with the original idea ,and if the idea is India then I would stay within that area ,even Bengal tigers would be of compliment ,if not .... please excuse my ignorance .

I definitely like the idea of some type of carved wall panel on the sides of the tapestry. ...mohanrajssekar, I agree a wooden wall panel would add the right touch. I am going to keep the light fixture, but raise it a tad. Maybe someday I will make a change, but not in the immediate future.

I've attached a picture of a carving I really like, what do you think? I'm thinking I'll buy two, one for each side and then find 2 small rectangular pictures with dark green and/or gold to hang horizontally beneath each wood carving. I also want to find a bowl for the table, as suggested. Thanks again for the great ideas!!

You could always frame it in and paint the frame in section the lighter orangy red color. Flanked by some carved wood. As for the frame it could be a plain wood or one with details stained to match other wood carvings.

tcufrog, I agree. Mind you, coenj found them, I just put them on the virtual wall. They look like the flowers surrounding Ganesha... as if a couple jumped out of the frame and turned into wooden carvings...

I like the idea of just a bigger frame as groveraxle suggested. less is more.

The framed tapestry is 3' by 3' and cost quite a bit to get framed. I'm not really willing to pay to have it reframed at this time. I appreciate the suggestion, though. Thanks.

Genevieve, adding 2 candles or scones would actually propose that the Ganesha is the main attraction. But contrary to usual Hindu prayer rooms/altars, the main focal point would be an oil lamp (referred to as the deepam). Hence no harm in candles or wall scones. I suggested to refrain from too many Ganesha's in one room because, this specific piece is simply beautiful and to avoid the room being given a prayer room vibe. (Much different from a spiritual vibe). A prayer can be said anywhere, but in my personal opinion, the dining room should have a more homely & family vibe, prayer makes it awe so personal since that is the understanding between an individual being and God. Regardless of however he has come to understand the Supreme Being. Though I do agree with you that when we put something together, it should usually fit with the original idea. I suggested the woodwork carving because it brought a touch of fine artistic touch, much like what you find in India. Fine art gives coenj's dining room the needed decor. Coenj, having the Ganesha in the room (worshiped or not doesn't matter) gives out an aura that when you and your family sit down for a meal beginning with breakfast, a silent prayer is eminent so that the day goes well, and when you sit down for dinner/supper, the silent prayer is so that the day may end well. This was actually my first opinion upon seeing the room. Did you consider stencil art? Here are a few that I think look great and will complement the Ganesha well. Stencil 4 would look really good on the ceiling with your lamp in the middle of it. But seems quite hard to pull off. Hope this helped...

I am working on finding the paint color for you! I know it is Valspar Signature, but the can no longer has the sticker.

I'd consider getting some banjara necklaces off ebay and framing or boxing them if you like the idea of flanking pieces from the same country. Or introduce a little more eclectic feel with some Mexican bark paintings or Otomi textiles. You could also add some embroidered or mirrored Indian pillow covers for the chairs, or even frame the pillow covers as flanking pieces.
