I planted a bareroot a few weeks ago. Hope to see how it does in the bs resistant department

I love it! It's good to see that your photo of Celestial Night at San Jose looks as good as the promotional photo from Regan Roses. The parentage of this rose also seems pretty outstanding. I'm keeping it mind for next year--I hope CN lives up to these photos. Thanks, romogen. Diane

    Wow, my favorite color.

    That's such a beautiful color . I definitely want it !!

Me too! Me too! Is it fragrant?

Mine just bloomed - it is a WOW rose! I love it! Cant comment on disease resistance, but when all those buds popped open at the same time - just beautiful!

Want it! It looks like a beauty. Parents are two fantastic roses, so it should be a good one.

Okay, processing... It did not get the fragrance of Grande Dame or Ebb Tide (to me, major selling points for both), or the coloring of E.T., which is my second favorite purple rose. Hopefully, it is a blooming machine like both of its parents. The blooms appear larger, which is more on par with Grande Dame. It is not lavender, nor the deep purple of others in this class. It appears darker than Plum Perfect.

Wonder what the disease resistance and growth habit are considering Grande Dame could become quite large relative to the more demure E.T., and I do not think/know if either parent has very good disease resistance? I would have purchased it in a heartbeat for LV, here in TX, disease resistance is a primary consideration.

How do you like Celestial Night, Romogen? Thank you for sharing!

Mine blackspotted pretty badly after the rain we had in May, it looks like the San Jose one has it too. It also doesn't like the heat, it goes pink and crisps.
It should be a lovely spring first flush rose next year, though!

Mine was planted last year. It bloomed a few (?) blooms this year and now has zero leaf on it. Seems to have no blackspot resistance at all here in New Jersey, and has been a total garbage rose so far. It will meet Madam de la shovel soon

I planted mine earlier this Fall . very slow growth although it is on Fortuniana . rarely bloomed too . the color is similar to Grand Dame in our heat .

I’m surprised to hear Celestial Night has such poor disease resistance...it has been marketed as THE disease resistant purple, but not fragrant like most of the others. I personally wouldn’t trade disease resistance for fragrance, I have to spray anyway. I’ve seen it in several local nurseries, color is quite nice.

I do love Twilight Zone, nice color and good size, but the bloom is rather fleeting. Ebb Tide is more fragrant but a smaller bloom.

Grande Dame for me is definitely a hot pink, not purple at all. Big robust plant, lots of fragrant droopy medium sized blooms. I like it, but don’t love it.

My pick of the purples is definitely still Lavender Crush , the rose in my avatar. It’s by far the most purple , (beautiful shades of violet, royal purple, slate blue). in my climate, and has the strongest scent. It’s a robust grower that repeats well.

Oh such a bummer that CN gets black spot. That just would not work for me. I first read of CN on the Heirloom Roses website where the big selling point is disease resistance after profuse blooming & color. Why would they be so wrong???

This kind of color appeals to me so much these days. Does anyone know how the color of CN compares to Laguna and Ascot?

BenT: Where can one get Lavender Crush? I have never grown a rose that color and scented too! TY

As soon as I saw the first picture of this rose my thought was that it might go pink in the heat. Been there, done that, and I'd want a rose that stays reliably purple in my climate. I have two bushes of Plum Perfect and I hope they keep their color. They're planted where they have afternoon shade in order to forestall that dreaded "pinking" but my new plants haven't bloomed yet in the heat so we'll see. I will say that CN seems to bloom like crazy!

Ingrid, I think you will love Plum Perfect. For me, it stays clean, blooms lots and keeps its lovely purple color. Blooms arent big like hybrid teas, but they are such a lovely color and bloom so much I dont care. Nothing is perfect. Gaye Hammond, the well known rosarian from Houston, says this rose is one of her favorites. I have 4-5 planted - its one I always want around. I have one planted next to Pretty Lady Rose [another big favorite] and the 2 colors look wonderful together - a white rose would really look good with these two. I would also like to place my Plum Perfect and Celestial Night close together along with a new Le Petit Prince I just got - think that combination would be wonderful.

This rose isn’t purple, but I’m very happy with its structure and the fact that it’s a

prolific bloomer. I have deer in my area and must grow roses on the deck, and this rose is doing great in a pot that has a 16” diameter. It has excellent disease and aphid resistance, even though nearby roses are affected. Great rose overall

That is so beautiful, and reading all these reports tells me my rose gets too much shade . Poor thing will have to be dug up and moved again

I think mine is in too much shade too plus a particularly crap area for trees roots. Definitely will be moving this fall

I got mine this spring and have been really please with it so far! It blooms all the time and has had very little disease. I'm really hoping it winters well.

I am a huge fan of Celestial Night

It blooms really well and the color, so beautiful but definitely not purple

I love my Celestial night but I don’t think it’s very heat resistant, because it’s always the first one to get fried when it’s really hot...

Oh yes, Oliver! Even here when we had days in the 90s they crisped up real quick!

Ours is purple in early spring and late fall; in summer, more of a hot pink.

Here’s my celestial night I planted her in June and doing well. It has 8 buds when I checked today. I am a first time rose grower and of course, I bought it because it was on sale! She will stay in that pot this winter and if she won’t make it, she doesn’t belong in my garden. Such a beauty! 🌹

it’s true, this one can’t handle the heat. We don’t get very hot up here in the Pacific Northwest but even so, when the temps cross 84, I move the pot to a shady spot as the flowers start scorching.

Oliver & Seil, my 2nd year Celestial Night lasts way better in the heat than Twilight Zone.

Trying to decide between Celestial Night and Grand Dame. I love the color of Celestial Night but I always try to buy roses with strong fragrance, but as I said love the color of CN. I’m in zone 8b in north Florida. So, hot and humid in summer. No shade for my roses. Will CN survive? Which should it be?

I have both and prefer Celestial Night. Very healthy in our high humid weather .Grand Dame grows huge for me around 7 ft tall with beautiful blooms but they blow away in a day .

Celestial night is my favorite rose. It gets mostly aftetnoon sun and has held up like a champ. The color is so rich and non fading.

I havent grown Grand Dame so I cant compare but to me the color is prettier than Pretty Lady rose.

thanks everyone for the information. I decide to add Celestial Night to my High Country Rose order. Plan to give it a spot with some shade to the west. Really looking forward to it.
