Persimmon tree dropping fruits

Every spring, my persimmon trees that are growing in the ground drop about 90% of the fruit about 1-2 weeks after the blossoms open up. Am I doing something wrong? Is it a pollination issue? Are the trees nutrient deficient? Does anyone else have the same problem? I live in the desert Southwest. The trees get plenty of sunlight/water and produce viable fruits, just not as much considering the initial number of blossoms. Is this just mother nature's way of thinning out the tree?
