Guest room advice needed..

Hi, seeking advice for the first time here.

This is our (to-be) guest room. Please excuse the mess :-)

We are looking to spruce it up a little. Things that can't change - wall wardrobes along the left of the bed and the position of the bed itself. Floor material also cannot be changed right now.

We'd like to add seating space - where is best? Under the windows on the right of the bed? Or replacing the wall fixed counter and putting an L shaped or any other sofa set. That is the wall the TV will be fixed on.

Any ideas or reference pictures would be appreciated!

Definitely take out the counter and cupboards. Will this room be used a lot for sitting and watching TV, or primarily used a bedroom, where TV watching would be done from the bed? I'm not sure if I'd put in a sofa set myself - more like a loveseat, as you don't want it to look too cramped.

I'd replace the lighting in here with a stand alone lamp and a chandelier or semi flush light fixture above the bed, and remove that fixture over the window. Put a small reading lamp on the side table.

The curtains just reinforce the smallness of the windows, so I'd remove them and hang woven blinds that start about 1/3 of the way between the ceiling and the windows. Keep them open where the windows start, and the illusion will be of larger windows.

Get a pretty area rug for under the bed. Change the blankets to a white duvet and white sheets, and add a pretty printed quilt or coverlet along the bottom of the bed. Add a bench at the foot, and some throw pillows in coordinating colours.

Change up the art to match the new color scheme. I'd also probably give the room a new paint job - not really liking the dark blue, the light opposite walls, the light wood and cabinetry. Paint everything one shade, something light. Attention should be drawn to the bed.

I would finish your project for TV and move everything out other than what must stay..than post new images..what flooring will be used?

If you are going to mount a tv on the wall opposite the bed place a narrow console below it. Then it looks like you may have room for 2 apartment sized stuffed arm chairs with a small table between under the window on white wall.

However I caution against buying anything for this space until it is finished as Home Interiors with Ease recommended above. You never know what things you will find or issues may come up when tackling projects like these.

If the air conditioner has to stay where it is I would add a sturdy shelf under it, maybe a canopy type header to make it feel more comfortable for people to lie under it. Looking up at a wall air conditioner does not make for a restful night...

It is going to be a cute room, I love the detail on the white closet doors.

I want to say that I LOVE those built in closets, and the bed!!!! And what is outside the window--that metal grill? Is that safety grill? I can't tell, but I can say that I love those details. I would say definitely need new window treatments. You have room for 2 chairs and maybe a small end table under the window.... or an upholstered bench, maybe.

I don't have a problem with the deep blue wall--I think it adds drama, and I think your standout pieces (the bed, the closets) would fade into the background if you painted the whole room a light color. I think the flooring appears neutral and functional. A rug would be nice too.

The room feels dramatic to me, in a bohemian way, and if you like that look, consider floor length curtains, which would help dramatize the windows a bit, and visually enlarge them. I would say go with the blue, and add some pattern and more blues in there.

It would help if you tell us what kind of decorating style you like.

Try placing a rug down under the bed for now since you can't update the flooring, and also remove the cabinets. It would also be nice to see the room painted all one color. It looks like window treatments are in order for both sets of windows, and you will also want to get a duvet or comforter for the bed. Try getting a white color since this is a guest room. Start there and then post more pictures once you have a color scheme and all other pieces removed that need to be removed.

The bones in the room are beautiful. Your ceiling look very high. I love you wardrobe wall and your Windows. Are they leaded? I would paint the wood cabinet the same cream as your bedroom set and add a door at the top. Remove the wooden thing hanging on the wall. Put a bench at the end of the bed and pick paint colors based on new bedding. Something with a French feel would complement your existing features. Wall mount the tv and hide all cords.
