Boy! These Jerusalem artichokes are growing so fast!

I bought 8 little tubers, and 7 came up. One came up with two heads, so I figure I got 8 anyway. They are growing like MAD! Of course, they're planted in a literal compost pile, where I just tossed all my kitchen scraps out the door, into the garden. The two I planted on the slope by the fence aren't growing quite so quickly.

I had forgotten how much they branch out. These are already branching and they aren't even a foot tall yet. I can't wait for the pretty fall flowers and to see what kind of crop I get. I used to grow these in SC, and the three clumps of tubers my uncle gave me put out enough artichokes to make several jars of pickles and chow-chow.

They're pretty easy, seeing as they are actually weeds, and an invasive plant in some states.

I was watching videos of people harvesting them yesterday, and I'm going to have to move some plants that are too close to them, or they'll get dug up when I harvest.

I bet they are really going to take off with all this rain this week. I don't know about you but it start to rain yesterday and has not stopped and the weatherman has it at 100% for days.

Yep, we're getting that rain too for the next few days. Maybe we will actually have a rainy season this year. The past few years, it started off o.k., then just stopped raining. Our ducks had no babies last year, because they need the water to hatch the eggs, and for the babies to swim in. The ducks next door had a few babies, but ours had none.
