A recovering hibiscus tragedy

My yellow and red hibiscus plants are coming out very well from the bottom, but the peach only had one little sprout come up from the bottom. I was protecting it with my life, and noticed it had started to branch, which made me very happy. Today, after the storm, I went out to look around and noticed its leaves were wilted lookiing. On closer inspection, I saw that it had broken off the trunk. I have no idea how that happened, but I was so sad! It's only about 4 inches tall, but I pulled off the two little forming branches, stripped the leaves, clipped the bottom and put it into water. PRAYING it roots! That was my favorite hibiscus, but it got some kind of rot on one side and was not doing well, then it got frozen. I really didn't expect it to come back, but it bravely put out that one little shoot.

Say a prayer for my little baby, that I can root and save it.

Yeah, we seasoned hibiscus parents just ignore the yellow leaves, unless the whole bush starts turning yellow. It's just a fact of life with hibiscus.

Sorry to hear about your baby. I hope it recovers.

Hibiscus are sure picky and hard to grow, but I keep trying because I love the flowers. You don't water them enough, they get yellow leaves. You water them too much, they get yellow leaves. You don't fertilize them enough, they get yellow leaves. You fertilize them too much, they get yellow leaves. Argh!!!!!

I guess I'm just a glutton for pain :)

I have a hibiscus growing in front of my place that was already there when we moved in. It's been three years now and I have never fertilized it or watered it and it grows like a weed. I have to cut it back every couple of months. I have not had a problem with yellowing leaves but the plant is a bug magnet. Aphids, whiteflies, mealy bugs, you name it, it finds it's way to this plant!

I recently bought a yellow double flowered hibiscus. Will see how that fares.

Good news! The little cutting has nubbies, and as soon as it gets a few roots, it's going into a pot. I'm so happy!
