Peg system for dishes in drawers - help please!

We recently purchased a peg system so we could store dishes in a drawer, similar to the one shown below. I'm having a really difficult time figuring out the best layout. I know that the pegs are removable, but we have to cut the board down to fit in the drawer, so it would really help to figure out the layout in advance to know the best places to make the resizing cuts. If you've used these, can you please offer any advice about the best way to store the dishes? Is it OK to use the sides of the drawer as one "wall" to keep them from sliding around, or better to have pegs on all sides? Is it easy to get them out of the drawer if the pegs are placed next to each other? Do you need to keep the little tab for lifting it out of the drawer, or can that be cut off? Do you ever remove it for cleaning or is it actually installed to the base of your drawer? thanks!!

I would use the drawer sides as a wall. I want the space used as fully as possible with only enough left to get your fingers in.

Trial and error, I would not mount it in the drawer so its impossible to remove however.

Generally the larger pieces of crockery are heavy so that the piles of them don't move unless Godzilla (or a teenage boy) opens the drawer with a lot of speed.

Instead of that system I just used the IKEA drawer liner that eliminates any plate sliding.

One of my customers did the same as Beverly. She uses those spongey shelf liners...everything stays put fine.

stacks of plates are heavy.... you don't want to stack them deep or they'll weigh a ton, no matter how well the drawer is made. and a short stack just doesnt shift much. only in cartoons is this a problem.

FWIW, when I asked my cabinet maker about using these he told me that most of his clients don't like them because they take up a lot of interior drawer space. The drawer liner suggestion above sounds more practical.

I've never used one of these, but I'd imagine it to be somewhat impractical.

When getting a plate out (or replacing one), your motions are not raising it vertically, before moving it towards you, like a forklift. Typically you'd move it at a natural angle, which would be prevented by these protrusions.

Try it out first, with nothing permanently affixed.
