I think slate would be too close to the cabinet color. Stainless would at least give you a sheen and a lighter color - without being stark white.

Yes...stainless. It's neutral (not drab) and would look nice with your cabinet hardware.

Even though I’m a little tired of stainless I think that’s what would look best. Actually, I think the slate might look a little drab with your cabinets.

I don't mind the white appliances - I have them myself. What I am not fond of is white over the range microwaves. I don't like any over the range microwaves because I am short, but for some reason the white or black ones seem more visually noticeable when the color contrast with the cabinets. You might look into changing the micro to a hood, and if in the budget, a wood hood painted to match the cabinets would be pretty. If you like the white appliances, a wood hood with vent insert would be less expensive then a new fridge. If you do change to stainless, a simple stainless hood would look good too - if you can find another place for the microwave - and if you have some left over tile to fill in the backsplash gap that would be caused by the change out.

I think that the white appliances look great. They are not too stark. They enhance the look of your cabinets.

Still vote for stainless. The slate looks a little dark to me. Also, the hardware you chose looks nice with your cabinets...so would stainless. :-)

I would say that the white was crisp and nearly perfect in your kitchen, except that apparently your counters are off-white. :( Stainless much preferable to slate, which limits your feature choices and will make the room much darker.

the counters are Corian, off-white with a bit of gray veining.

I never reccommend the new colors of appliances they will come and go and justa biut the time you need a new one the color will have been discontinued , just plain old stainless is still the best and will look awesome in your kitchen and while you are at it get a counter depth fridge .

i did look at counter-depth, but to me it wasn't worth paying so much more and often for a reduction in storage capacity. i just went to look at appliances again, and it's a toss-up. I'd sure hate to get something that i don't like any better than the white.

Right now, i think i will paint the walls above the cabinets and next to the fridge in "watery" by Sherwin-Williams, which is almost a match for my sofa/chaise in the adjoining living room. Perhaps that will soften the harshness and tie it together. I still have time before 4th of July sales, and then there is always Black Friday.

Once it's painted, i will revisit the idea - and if i decide to go with stainless, maybe there will be more options in counter-depth

Another vote for stainless. Your white appliances are nice looking, it yes, stark in contrast.

I have counter depth French door, and there is quite a difference. Also I love the layout and can see everything, I’m 5 foot so that’s important. It doesn’t look like the elephant in the room. Why don’t manufacturers make all counterdepth is beyond me.

I do have a French door at my other house, at like it. There are few counter-depth available in slate finish; but, y'all have me strongly considering stainless, and then i could get a counter-depth French door. . .

Had the kitchen walls above the cabinets painted, which definitely softens the starkness of the white appliances.
Have priced a counter-depth French door fridge and other appliances, in stainless, with Fourth of July sale prices, and think i might just proceed. But, will let the new look mull for a day or two.

I disagree that stainless is drab..i would avoid the dark stainless. I have a feeling its a fad..if you can afford to keep changing then go for it..but if not i would go with stainless

If your appliances are working well I would leave them. White wouldn't be my first choice, but I think your kitchen looks nice. Down the line I would replace with stainless when the white ones break.

You've done such a great job with the kitchen remodel. If you don't want a counter depth fridge then you should have, or maybe still could, had an enclosure built around the standard size to make it look right. It will still jut out beyond the counters but it will look more built-in.

The cabinets over the fridge should come out to meet the front.

Style Align - yes, i would go with stainless, not black stainless or slate. I had wanted the paint at 50% lighter than swatch, but when they mixed it they said that would lighten it too much. I knew better, but didn’t follow my own advice.
I can always repaint it at a later date, either lighter or back to original swiss coffee. For now, i’m letting my eye and brain get used to it.

Gray cabinets with SS

Tried a stainless steel counter depth - too small for my needs! And since it had dings in 2 doors and the ice maker didn’t work, they took it back. I will be getting full size stainless refrigerator at Black Friday sale, plus other appliances (possibly slate for those, as they all have stainless handles).
The full size fridges only stick out into the room about 2” more than counter depth, and have much greater interior capacity. The difference is hardly noticeable, and certainly not worth the price for less space.

Looks much better than white. Stick with all stainless!
