Gives you a good feeling, eh? Looks good, too! I think you're right about the paper and it might just be pulling the paper off that makes it happen. I tried it and didn't like it so don't use it.

I like it, Lois. I seem to get stuck in the using white instead of a color, but your green really looks good! I hate using paper foundations, also. Would it stretch too much if you didn't use anything??

Sue, I don't think you could do it without a foundation of some sort. Some of the pieces were so narrow, and there were so many seams. I think a thin fabric is the way to go.

The green was a stretch for me. My first impulse was to use a neutral color, but then I thought, oh, what the heck. Do something different. That green is quite an unusual color. None of the strings were that color, so I thought that was a good thing. It certainly won't be to everyone's taste, but I like it, and so do some of you. And, Sharon, you're right. It really feels good to use up those strings.

What a great idea to use up smaller pieces of fabric, and so colorful, too! Love it!

I like string quilts, too. Lois, when I made string sashings for a couple of quilts, I used telephone book paper - I didn't have a problem with it stretching, what kind of paper did you use?

Very nice, Lois! I like the green, too. I think sometimes just pulling the paper off stretches blocks out of whack. Did you wait till it was all assembled to pull it off?

I'm getting ready to try some string blocks with used dryer sheets as the foundations.

I just used scrap copy paper, Rita. It came off very easily. I took it off after I finished each block, before I pieced the quilt. I noticed as I pressed the blocks that they had grown, even though I pressed after every seam I sewed. That's why I recut them all to size. Donna, I think dryer sheets sound like the perfect fix. The string blocks would also be stronger. Some of my seams were pretty narrow. I'll be sure to do some close quilting on them.

I also removed the two shorter borders and took an inch off each of them. The quilt lies flat now.

I absolutely love it with the green. I've made this quilt by simply sewing strings together and then cutting them to the right width, no foundation at all, and it worked fine. I'm going to make another one using a jelly roll

This is gorgeous!! The colored background really makes it sing, the green just beautiful (looks teal-ish from here).
