Not only safe but I would call it necessary for new sod. Sod can come to you already contaminated with disease. Here's a picture of the top piece of sod from a box store 2 weeks ago.

Back when I first started with cornmeal I was using it as an antifungal only. When I saw how good it made my lawn look, I continued to use it as a fertilizer. That is when I came up with the Federal Holiday Schedule for organic fertilizing. I start on Washington's Birthday and repeat on Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, and Thanksgiving. So how did I come up with that, you may ask? I watched the grass and when it started to yellow or get blotchy, I fertilized again and wrote down the date. I was only using 10 pounds per 1,000 square feet at the time, so using it at 15 or 20 pounds per thousand should go easily from date to date.

Well sounds good. I'm so excited and can't wait to get off work to throw that son of a gun down. That picture is exactly what my new sod looks like too.
