Capped hot in ceiling box

Am turning a celing fan into a light fixture. Currently there is one wall switch for the fan and one for the fan's light. The ceiling box has a red and a black, controlled by the separate switches. Any issues with capping off one of the hots and shoving it up into the box and leaving one switch dead?

Nope. It's done often when new homes are prepped for ceiling fans, but the fans aren't installed.

I'd also remove the switch for the fan and install one of these covers.

I hate leaving behind switches that don't control anything!
