Painting brick will suffocate the brick and trap moisture causing the brick to deteriate over time. As well you will have to paint about every 5 years due to chipping flaking etc from trapping the moisture in the brick. Brick is meant to breathe.

If you want to change the color, look into brick stain. Just google brick staining for your local area and you should find something.
