I don't like to let mine dry out completely, it's a pain to re-wet! Make sure it's not too moist or you could get mold. I put mine in a plastic garbage bag and seal it up good.

Some how I think re-wetting would be easier to deal with than mold. At first I was thinking to keep it aerated so fresh air would deter mold from developing. But air tight in a plastic bag will not encourage mold to develop? This is my first time dealing with mixed 511 so forgive me if I sound a little naive.

I have a LOT of containers so always have extra potting soil on hand. I store mine in 20 gallon plastic totes you can get anywhere. I currently have three different ones going - one for the 5-1-1 mix, one for my cacti and succulents and another that is a barkier and more acidic blend I use for my Japanese maples, dwarf conifers and other acid lovers.

I find the totes keep unwanted things out and keep the soil mix neither too wet nor too dry. And they stack, too!!

It's indoors in a plastic pail with a sheet of steel covering. I was stirring it up daily but I won't worry about it anymore, at least for a while.
