white or gray? paint to match cabinets or walls?

We added shelves in this unused section next our built-in cabinet ... still finishing the kitchen but I’m wondering if we should paint the walls behind the shelves white to match the cabinets and look like an entire wall of cabinetry? Currently the wall here is painted to match the rest of the walls in the room , a greige color. Here are two angles.

    I would paint it white to match the cabinets. A contrasting color draws too much attention to it. The contents don’t look important enough to emphasize.
