I don't see a fabric headboard as industrial. Nor does that bedspread and pillows fit that description. Does he like the color of the walls? If not, that should be your first change. Take him shopping to find replacements--either to a brick and mortar store or online.

Too often, folks on Houzz use words to describe their design preferences that are wrong. He may be saying industrial, while he actually means something else. Good luck.

Personally I don't like something over my head when I'm sleeping. The space you have is fairly smallish and looks fine without it. I'd put some wall art over the dresser instead. Nice choices for the room, my sons would have loved something like this.

I think a piece of art would help make the room feel even more finished. A horizontal piece could go over the bed, or as suggested in another comment you could put a piece of art over the dresser.
