pocket doors - sizing and measuring

I need pro help here. I have four pocket doors. The openings, without any trim, are about 29" wide. We asked the door salesman to make sure that the door would be centered in the opening when it was installed, keeping in mind the width of the trim. He ordered us 32" wide doors (for a 28/29" opening). He said "industry standard" is that you measure from the stud inside the pocket to the edge of the opening, and that is what is normal. He said you do not use stoppers inside the pocket, you use the stud. So this is what our door looks like now. I think it's horrible! It's off center. How can this be normal? (The last photo is looking at the door from the opposite side. See how much of the stile stays inside the pocket). thanks for any advice you can give.
