espalier apples on east facing wall?

last modified: 8 years ago

I have a six foot high, east facing privacy fence, angled slightly northeast. There is nothing near the fence, and the space would be ideal for espalier, except for the direction it faces.

Has anyone tried to espalier fruit trees, especially apples, on a fence like this? Is it feasible with early season varieties?

If not, other ideas for what would grow well in that space?
